PURPOSE/FUNCTION Drive Watchdog is intended to help you track files as they are added, deleted, or changed including growth or shrinkage and by how much. INSTALLATION To install Drive Watchdog, run the "DWDSetup.exe" file included with the "zip" package. This is a standard "Install Shield" setup program and will install or update required files as listed below (See FILES REQUIRES/INSTALLED). REMOVAL (we don't think you will want to) To comply with Microsoft WIN32 Standards, the program was designed to be uninstalled by using "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs" method. This removes files installed during setup. For details on how to accomplish a FULL CLEAN UNINSTALL, please see "Uninstall.rtf" included in the DriveWatchdog program icon group. Glad that's out of the way!) ============================================================= FILES INSTALLED/REQUIRED BY DriveWatchdog Following files are installed by the Setup program: In DriveWatchdog directory (selected at setup, C:\Program Files\DriveWatchdog\ by default). - DriveWatchdog.exe (copyright 1998 by DWD Technology) - DriveWatchdog.hlp (copyright 1998 by DWD Technology) - DriveWatchdogLicense.txt - wd3.def - Uninstall.rtf - Shortcuts (*.pif or *.lnk) to four of the above files in Start Menu/Programs/DriveWatchdog In the subdirectory /DriveWatchdog/Reports/ - sample2.rtf - sample1.txt The following files are stored in your windows/system directory and may be required by many programs. Drive Watchdog requires these exact versions (or later) and will add or upgrade these files but will not overwrite later versions of the same files. If you intentionally prevent "Setup" from updating these files, DriveWatchdog may not work. SPECIAL NOTE FOR SIMTEL DOWNLOADERS: If you downloaded this package from SIMTEL, and do not already have the required files, you may need to install "MSVBM50.DLL". Rule of thumb: If Drive Watchdog does not immediately work, get the complete package directly from DWD Technology at: http://members.tripod.com/dwdtech/download.html - ctl3d32.dll - 26K - 9/13/98 - olepro32.dll - 113K - 8/18/97 - richtx32.ocx - 193K - 7/19/97 - riched32.dll - 171K - 1/13/97 - comctl32.ocx - 591K - 7/19/97 - asycflt.dll - 116K - 8/18/97 - comcat.dll - 6K - 9/18/97 - oleaut32.dll - 479K - 8/18/97 -*msvbvm50.dll - 1316K - 7/19/97 (*)SEE ABOVE NOTE FOR SIMTEL USERS - stdole2.tlb - 17K - 8/18/97 The following additional files are created during normal use: Prof_X_.ddg, where "X" is the letter name of each drive. these will be created in the /DriveWatchdog/ directory. Addtional report files (and the included samples) are stored in the DriveWatchdog/Reports/ directory. Memory Usage: DriveWatchdog will typically use 5.09 MB (including 3MB shared) while running and releases all memory while not in use. ============================================================= Known Issues: On Some systems, the recycle bin may be handled differently because of various utility programs. In these cases, when an entire folder is discarded as a single unit and is stored in a single file along with its contents, Drive Watchdog may not recognize the contents of that "recycled" folder as separate files, and may respond inconsistently. This will NOT affect Drive Watchdog's ability to accurately monitor and report on user files or recycle bin files that have been discarded normally. DriveWatchdog can handle millions of files, but assumes that no single volume (drive) will contain more than 32,000 folders, and that no single folder will contain more than 32,000 files. In the very unlikely event that your systems exceeds these parameters, please contact us if you need customized applications.
